Traditional Fishing

Traditional Fishing Portimão Algarve – This traditional method of fishing is used by the older Portuguese fishermen, but, with the introduction of new fishing techniques, is sadly disappearing. This involves catching small fish which are kept alive and used as bait to catch bigger fish, without the aid of modern technology (i.e. rod and reel). This method is practiced with a hand line, but, if the client so wishes there will be rods and reels available.

  • Duration: 8 hours

Traditional Fishing Portimão Algarve

The departure is from Portimão Marina and the trip can be made either eastwards towards Faro, or westwards towards Sagres. The fishing takes place between these two geographical points as this vast area offers good fishing grounds, because of the natural rocks and sand, and climatic conditions. We shall stop to catch Mackerel. We shall then travel to our chosen fishing ground – from less than a mile, to as far as 4 or 5 miles from the coast, depending on the time of the year, as the fish are at different depths. There will be time for a light meal, previously arranged, before the return to Portimão Marina.
